The Transit and Parking department has expanded the functionality of HotSpot's parking offerings in Barrie to offer a digital residential parking permit program.

As of May 2, 2022, vehicle owners could apply for the digital waterfront parking permit through the HotSpot app or website. Allandale-area residents that were registered for the Allandale Residential Parking Permit prior to May 2, 2022, were automatically issued a digital waterfront parking permit.

For new applicants: when applying for either permit please indicate in the comments section that you would like to apply for both the Allandale Residential Parking Permit and the Waterfront Parking Permit. If you are approved, you will be notified via email which permit(s) you are now registered for.

This program takes place in the Allandale neighbourhood specified below, in which on-street parking is not permitted 7am–9am on weekdays. You must live within this area to obtain a permit. An information letter was mailed to single-detached dwellings, semi-detached dwellings, and street townhouses within the impacted area in December 2021.

Program Purpose

The 7am–9am parking restrictions are in place in this area to prevent the spillover of drivers seeking to access the Allandale GO Station. The purpose of the free permit is to make on-street parking available between 7am and 9am to residents who live on these streets, and to determine the feasibility of this technology-based solution for potential parking permits in other areas of Barrie.

Program Details

  • Permits are only required when accessing on-street parking between 7am and 9am Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays) where signage states “Except by Allandale Permit”. Permits cannot be used to park in contravention of any other no-parking signage or in contravention of overnight on-street parking restrictions.
  • Each vehicle must be registered separately: 1 permit = 1 vehicle. Permit holders will therefore not need to switch vehicles in the HotSpot app once the permit is registered.
  • Each vehicle licence plate must be registered to an address within the specified area.
  • There is no cap on the number of permits that can be issued per household.
  • In consideration of available on-street parking space, permits are only available to residents of single-detached dwellings, semi-detached dwellings, and street townhouses.
  • The permit will expire December 31, 2024. Permit holders will receive notification to reapply.
  • The licence plate that is linked with the permit is what enforcement officers will use to determine if the vehicle is permitted to use on-street parking during the time-based restriction in the posted area.
